I have had this unit for 5 years. I bought it because my basement smelled so musty, all you could smell as soon as you walked into my house was the basement. I was terribly embarassed by the smell and concerned about the health effects. The basement had been damp for the first few years after we built it, and I was concerned the smell was toxic mold. I spent 100's of dollars on mold treatments and preventatives, and expensive one-room air purifiers and Ionizers without any help. I knew the mold spores were in the air, not only on the surfaces and was being spread throughout our home when the furnace or A/C ran. The kid's bedrooms in the basement were unhealthy to sleep in, and even their clothes and bedding smelled like the basement. I installed the unit the day before we left for a 2 day visit out of town. I turned the furnace fan on and locked up the house. When we returned, we were amazed. Usually we come home to a house that smells worse from being closed up. We opened the door and NO SMELL, we walked into the basement, and the whole basement had no smell at all. I know the unit sanitized the air in the whole house and killed the organisms that caused the musty smell, including mold, which I was so worried was adversely affecting my family's health. At first I was a bit iffy about whether the "air purifiers" really made that much of a difference. But this one looked cool so I thought I'd give it a try...and let me tell you, it really DOES WORK!! After having it on a medium setting for just an hour I could significantly tell a difference in the way the room felt. The air seemed fresher, easier to breathe and just overall clean.

I especially love using it at night, because I like the sound of a fan and even had to turn it up to medium setting from whisper quiet so it could be nosier. But if you don't like noise, whisper quiet is a great setting. The low blue light is also a nice soothing night-light or just fun color to look at.

Because of my breathing problems and allergies, I used to have to dust every other day or so just to keep things clean...since I've had this air purifier there's hardly any dust and I just have to clean every week or so.

Another plus is the no replacement filters...you save tons of money by not having to replace filters, this one can clean easily!! Overall, I am absolutely satisfied with this product and would definitely recommend it to anyone!

We put it in a room where it couldn't affect us, hoping it would offgas enough to use it. Now, nearly two weeks later, it is still giving off that smell, although a little less intensely. Why on earth would a company that claims its product purifies the air use a plastic that gives off such terrible fumes? It also seems far too small to clean the air in the space we bought it for. Obviously we're sending it back.

The AirFree P2000 literature claims that the product incinerates bacteria by heating the air to 400 degrees fahrenheit, and uses convection current to circulate air through the unit.

I was skeptical, but as we were looking for a product to help with our kid's allergies, decided to give it a try. There was absolutely no difference in the quality of the air in their bedroom after a few weeks. The documentation does correctly state that the product does not work with allergens or dust that has settled on surfaces of the room, only for things floating in the air.

However, the convection current is not nearly strong enough to really pull enough air through the unit to do any good at all. If you slap the carpet right next to the unit and look at the dust that billows up, most of it will settle right back on the ground next to the Airfree - even right next to the air intake vents, you can not see even the slightest pull of the dust towards the unit - it just settles right back down on the ground.

The documentation also states that you need to keep it on for at least a week to notice any effect. However, just the airflow from under any bedroom door will replace more air in the room in one day than this unit can clean in a month, guaranteed! And that's if you leave the door closed.

Think of it this way - you could get the exact same effect by leaving a burner on an electric stove turned on 24 hours a day. Would you even consider this as a solution to your asthma? It's just a waste of electricity.

The unit is outrageously overpriced at $239. I opened it up to see what was inside. As expected, it's just a basic control circuit with a ceramic heating element. As far as the parts go, there is less here than what is used to build a regular $25 coffee maker or toaster. Ok, they don't manufacture this in mass produced volume, but they would still make a very good profit if it was sold for $50.

There's not many products that I would give zero stars to, but this is one of them.

Do not buy from this company. I bought this product and my order apparently got duplicated. I called the cs# when I found this out (I received two separate shipments) and told the woman about it. She said that she would send a return label, which took forever to receive. I also got an email saying that the order had been duplicated. I sent the duplicate back and then received a REPLACEMENT in the mail, never got a refund for the duplicate charge. I sent an email to the cs because I was not willing to spend my own money to talk to another person who could not speak English well when they were the ones that screwed up in the first place. I have never heard back from this company and am reporting them to the BBB. Horrible customer service and the product doesn't work very well anyway!!!!!!!!

I have had the Air Sorround XJ-2000 for over 5 YEARS and I wouldn't be without it. I have it in the bedroom and it does a very good job. As I am a careful owner and clean the unit every 15 days, it never makes a noise. It still is as silent as it was when I bought it 5 years ago, needs no filters and provides a certain amount of ozone, which is one of the things I most like about it. If this item was still available, I would buy two or three more.

This purifier worked well for about a week. After that, it's ability to clean the air deteriorated. Cleaning the unit per the instructions did not remedy the situation. The odor put off by the device changed as well. It almost smelled like a slight burning aroma. We live next to a rock quarry and need something that is efficient and reliable. This purifier is neither. All in all, not a good choice even for a small room.

I bought the XJ-2000 because I have moderately bad allergies. I live in grass pollen country, and this year was particularly bad. I bought the XJ-2000 hoping that it would provide me some relief, and I must say that it has done that. Pollen counts are lower, but still high, and I haven't had any problems sleeping due to wheezing and other upper respiratory problems. I do keep it on the low setting since the high setting produces more of a swimming pool smell. My one gripe is that after about 2 weeks, the units became noticably louder. It was whisper quite at first, and now it makes a sort of white noise hiss. It doesn't interupt my sleep, but it is noticable. Where I live it is very quiet though, outside night time noise level is about 30 dBA. So the hiss that the units makes may not be noticable to someone who lives in a louder acoustic environment. I haven't tried the ionic breeze, but for a old cheepo like me the XJ-2000 does just fine.

The smell that many people were whining about is not bad at all. I don't even smell it. My girlfriend said she could smell it just barely, but not enough to actually think about it. You will have to clean it about once every 2 weeks. I don't mind this of course... it just means its doing its job. LOTS OF DUST gets collected.. I was shocked to be honest. You won't even need to depend on the clean indicator light. You will be able to hear a quiet buzz when it needs to be cleaned. I recommended this to my Mom and she got 2, loves them both.

I would rate this ZERO if I can. This was a waste of money. After less then 5 min of use, I started smelling something in the room and got a headache from it. According to the manual, it says that the smell is from the ozone created from the machine. It recommends you discussing with a doctor the amount of ozone you can intake before buying it. Its NOT SAFE and should be sold to anyone.

This is the second machine I have purchased. The first one ran day and night for years. I have several allergies, including one to mold and mildew. I keep the PurePro running in my home constantly. I have IonicPro minis running in the bedrooms. Since I have been using the machine,my allergies are much better. I am so happy I do not take allergy shots any more, and hardly have to use medication. My husband and I purchased this unit direct from the company over 3.5 years ago, and it's still going strong. This purifier is amazing! My husband simply followed the manufacturer's guidelines and it has not failed yet. He usually sanitizes it in the dishwasher, then he lets it completly air dry for about 2 days, and it's always worked. The loud cracking sound that is heard once in a while is when the machine pulls in a large particle or debris from the air. I you open the machine and clean it (wipe grid with a dry cloth)the sound goes away. It's so sad to see a product that works so well get such a horrible rating. It's helped me with my allergies and asthma. I can't even sleep without it anymore. The fact that it can mount on the wall is great too. I think when the manufacturer recommended the placement away from the wall they are specifically talking about it being placed on a table top(not it being mounted on the wall. When it is mounted on the wall the air is pushed outward instead of upward, so maybe that's the reason. this machine kept me from getting sick in house overun by mold. All-in-all a great piece of machinery!

I bought the Pure Pro with great expectaions and in the first month was pleasantly surprised. Owning a similar, but older and more expensive Oreck XL Signature model, I was impressed by the much amount of dust and dirt that the Pure Pro pulled in over a one month period. Considerably more effective than my particular Oreck model, as there is a much larger collection plate area in the Pure Pro. There is a newer Oreck that I believe would be much more effective. Other positives about the Pure Pro is that the machine is very quiet in the silent mode, is wall mountable, and supposedly can have its collection plates cleaned in a dishwasher.

Now the bad news. This machine seems to have some history of failure as reported through other customer reviews. Mine failed in the second month despite allowing 48 hours to thoroughly dry the washed collection plates. Actually my unit appeared to fail before being cleaned or washed. The manual only specifies 4 hours to dry, although this appears to be a misprint, as Customer Service specifies a 24 hour wait before reinsertion. The manual incidentally contains other inaccuracies such as keeping the unit 12 inches from the wall even though it can be wall mounted and has brackets for that very purpose.

Things do break down and fail even when they are brand new. This is what a warranty is for. But when I contacted Pure Pro's Customer Service, which is apparently not based in the US, the gentleman while quickly agreeing that I had a defective unit, informed me that I would have to pay to ship the unit back ($18) and that they have to charge me a handling/shipping fee ($30)to send a new one back to me. So, so far in the last 4 months I will have spent about $78 in shipping and handling fees. Its a good thing it takes them 6 weeks to get a unit to me, otherwise I don't think I could afford the one year waranty period.

I bought this from Amazon in January 2007. By mid April the collection plates stopped working. The fan and lights worked so you don't realize it's not working until you wonder why you don't have to clean it. You place an AM radio next to the unit. If you don't hear a buzz, it's not working, something I found out by accident, but confirmed by their customer service person. To return under their warranty, not only must you pay shipping costs, but they want another $20 sent to a separate address. The extra $20 gets me. You shouldn't have to pay them more money for a defective product. I don't recommend this product.

"Good Filter - Bad Customer Service" 2009-03-03

I have owned this filter for almost a year. Even though it SAYS the filters never need replacing, they DO! After use any HEPA filter that cannot be washed will need to be replaced after particulate matter is drawn deeper and deeper into the existing filters, that being said, as a filter I have loved the effectiveness. Now on to customer service.....

Seeing that the filters are now in need of replacing, I searched high and low for a replacement. Finally emailed their customer service on the manufacturer's page. I was informed that even though they sell the purifiers on the open market, the only way to get the replacement filter was thru them. OK doable. The problem is this: The unit needs TWO filters to replace the existing ones, they are not sold in sets of two. Moreover, the shipping costs as much as the filters if not more, they also do not bundle the shipping on the two filters even though the item REQUIRES two filters. After paying 13.00 EACH for shipping of these filters, you would think that shipping time would be reasonable. Be prepared to wait nearly a MONTH or 15 BUSINESS days. GMAB. Regular mail takes no more than three days to arrive ANYWHERE in the continental US. Are these being shipped directly from India? There is no tracking info provided so you wait a month and keep your fingers crossed that your product arrives.

Had I not paid so much for the unit in the first place, it would now be filling my local landfill in exchange for something more consumer friendly. By next year, it may be.

****Update after a month I contacted the company about the mysterious filters only to be told that they were on BACKORDER. Now where is that landfill. Hopefully the Sharp FPP60CX that I ordered will make this purifier obsolete. Too bad.... really good system just really poor customer service.

This setup is by far the best I've come across so far. So many units claim to be 1) effective and 2) quiet while operating. As I'm typing this, the sound my clicking keys is by far louder than the unit operating at medium power.

The filter works best to my knowledge on dust and dander. You can clean it with a vacuum or a dust buster, and cleaning takes all of 30 seconds, and requires no replacement. It includes a UV lamp that can be turned on and off, but unless you live in an area with high concentrations of mold or bacteria, I can't see it being of much use. The bulb can burn out, but I haven't a handle on how long they last.

Good for medium sized rooms, this is by far the best buy for the money I've found out of the 4-5 filters I've tried thus far.

We have only owned this item for 2 days, but have noticed a few things about the product.

-The filter is cleanable and will not need regular replacements. - A Big Plus since filters for comparable units are between $70-125.

-The fan blow is fairly noisy at Med-High to High speeds, but to achieve the CADR rating of 180, it needs to move a lot of air.

-The lights are very bright on the front of the unit, but could easily be covered up with black tape if used in a bedroom. It is not necessary to see the lights after you've used the product for a short period of time.

-This unit has the features of very expensive units costing $300-500. UV, HEPA, and Ion Generator are great features. Hopefully they are effective on this paticular unit.

I am still going to see if I actually notice the results of this unit, before deciding to keep it.

Good unit, fan is fairly noisy on any speed past low. On the lowest setting, the fan can barely be heard. Seemed to work well at clearing out the room of all the things activating my allergies. The best feature is the timer, it can be set up to twelve hours. I set it at night for 8 hours, keeps me from forgetting to turn it off before leaving for work.

I have tried many other products - Ionic Breeze and Hepa filters, none of them worked. But my Biozone does! I smoke a lot in my bedroom, and it NEVER smells like it the next day -not a trace of ciggy smell.

And the bulbs are supposed to last about a year? Well, mine's been going strong for one year now, and no signs of "weakening" yet. These bulbs are a little tough to remove (for cleaning or replacing); at first, I worried about having to pull so hard on the bulb, but it didn't break so I guess it just takes a little getting used to.

We've had the biozone 2000 for a couple of days, and it is a completely different animal than the two Whispure HEPA air purifiers in our home. It does not filter that air, but rather it appears to fundamentally affect its composition. As soon as you turn it on (it's runs almost totally silent), your nose will pick up a faint smell of ozone. And VERY fresh air coming from the vents. It's a powerful little machine: we put it in the room where the litterbox for our cats are, and it wiped out all smell in about 15 minutes. Even on its lowest speed, you can feel its effect all over our 1500 sq ft. house. The only downside is that it does leave a faint ozone trace in the air, and at high speeds a metallic odor. So, we run it on its lowest speed. But I highly recommend the biozone - it's no toy, but a serious air cleaner. Great for a pet room or any other space that has odor. But don't buy one that is too large - it can far exceed your needs. If you have 500 sq feet of need, buy the Biozone 500, not the 1000 or 2000. Our unit may be overkill for our house. But boy, does it work!

I don't know how well this works because I didn't get past openning the box and finding not only no receipt or return instructions but also the enclosed manual offers a 3 year warranty but states they only pay for parts, you pay for labor and postage!!!! Not only this you can find no where on the box or in the manual an address/phone number for the company or any service centers. I can't find it on the computer either. When you call up the info for the manufacturer on amazon, it states to contact amazon's customer service. This seems to be a "ghost" company. How can you know a company is reputable without contact info??? How can you get a company to stand behind their warranty if you can't find them?? This is going back immediately.

When I purchased this item, I was looking for a couple of features: filterless air purifier and a UV component.

The air filtration was less than impressive. Having used the Ionic Breeze before, this ineffectiveness of this air purifier was immediately obvious. Nonetheless, I continued to use it until one day, after three months of usage, I noticed it wasn't working at all.

I contacted customer support at Surround Air, with the understanding that I would send in the unit. No, instead, they sent ME the pieces to replace... because I was responsible for shoddy manufacturing? The disassembly of the purifier was extremely difficult as tiny screws were initially machine torqued in. After much frustration, I ended up replacing the pieces and it worked again...for another couple of weeks and then the same problem occurred.

Stay away from this one-- it's not worth the problems.

You can't go wrong on this if you want no filters to buy or clean, want an induction fan for more functionality, silent even with fan on, simple to clean the metal bar every few weeks EASY. UV lamp unobtrusively concealed inside the unit you don't see, not like some that users have to tape over an annoying night light. Lamps last a year, $14 replacement. (be sure the model # has UV after, some older models don't). Electric cord is super long if you want it up high like on a bookcase and still reach a socket - big plus for me. I first had it on a desk much closer to where I sit and smoke, but took space so working even better high up across the whole room. Uses just 8 watts, pennies a month so I leave it on 24/7.

I never had an ionic unit before so read up on all on the market and reviews pros and cons, by my comparison shopping this is amazingly affordable for what you get, less than even ebay sellers and free shipping was here so I had to try it with my low fixed income. Not the prettiest one but was here in a jiffy.

I have a small one room studio apt, less than 500sqft and I smoke, and have seasonal allergies, dust, pollen, mildew near the beach. During our CA rainy season I can't leave windows open much. This makes ozone thus more oxygen. After one day I could see NO dust particles, lint or smoke in the sunbeams coming through a big window in my room, crystal clear air. I have a good Surround Air ionic smokeless ashtray with carbon filter now that helps too, only odor lingering is what is left from carpet and fabrics thru the years non smokers may notice, not me, but dissipating after over a month's use. NO SMOKE.

No expensive HEPA filter to replace but my vacuum cleaner has one to scoop up particles that the neg ions and ozone cause to drop to the floor, none up where we breath. I'm sleeping so much better, nighttime sinus allergies gone and just feel better all around. True, it's a mood lifter :-) and Kleenex saver. So happy with it now my sister in Los Angeles who has had lung problems got one. Just a few days shipping, far quicker than estimated super saver, just plug it in and take a deep breath.

My only neg is the top of the case slants back so can't set anything on top of it for space. About the size of a VCR. Vertical styles were tempting but I found a space and makes more sense up off the floor to work well. Unless you are a dog and like laying on the floor to breath.

Disregard my rave review. A few months later, 3rd time I cleaned it it would not restart, not even the light went on. I knew it was supposed to have a one year warranty but don't have the orig box and couldn't find the card I never sent in. So I found reconditioned ones on ebay and got one for $9 plus shipping. They explain on site that there had been recalls because of faulty circuit boards, which they sent along with the unit. Many reviews said theirs worked like new. Not mine, it stayed on 2 hours at a time and quit, then quit altogether. It didn't have a UV light, older model but just the same as these otherwise. I have the circuit board, but like another misfortunate reviewer here, I haven't a clue how to get the tiny screws out and take it apart and change a circuit board. I even considered putting the board in my first one with UV light, but ready to toss them both in trash. The 2100UV did work like a dream a few months, clean air (I'm a smoker), so I'm heartsick to not have either one of 2 stay on and work like when new.

I also bought their ionic smokeless ashtray, horrible after one day's use, impossible to clean inside dome, outside of whole dome caked with brown tar that you need alcohol to get off a finger if touched. Like the room purifier, works great a day or a month, then trash. I really don't want to pay shipping to send them back then just get the same carp replaced with carp. Sorry if I encouraged others to waste money from my first review. Next time I'll give a product a lot more time before reviewing.

Since the manual did say their may be some odor initially, I waited... and waited.. and waited. Now, over 16 months later, I'm done waiting. The unit fills the 12 x 12 room it is supposed to *clean* with an obnoxious odor my mother described as 'paint fumes'. Unacceptable for my newborns' nursery. My child's allergist recommended that I get a room air purifier, so I did my research and bought the IQAir Health Pro Plus. I purchased it locally from an authorized dealer. For what it is worth, the purifier did nothing to improve my child's allergies. I can't blame the lack of child's improvement on this particular room air purifier. However, this unit emits a nasty odor from the charcoal filter, and it seems that this filter has contaminated the HEPA filter stacked above it--the odor is not there if the unit is operated with only the prefilter. Cost to replace these stinky filters will be $280, and who knows if the problem will return. There are supposed to be more than 7800 hours of life left on the charcoal filter and more than 14,000 hours of life left on my HEPA filter, but they just need to go to the trash. What a waste. I cannot endorse this unit with these problems, especially at the price. Not recommended.

"Does the Job, Definitely has some flaws..." 2009-07-24

I've now owned this machine for approximately 3 months. (Long enough for one prefilter change.) Before I begin, let me give you some background information:

I live in an area that produces most of the US grass seed.... and I've become severely allergic to grass. In my 750 sq foot apartment, I had two honeywell filters. Even so, I had to be on 20-60 mg prednisone for 6 weeks to be able to breathe. (Average dose was about 30-40mg prednisone/day and I could not leave the apartment).

I got this filter partially out of desperation. I did not want to go through another grass season like that.

I can't say (like some have reported) that I was able to be free of all medication, etc. But I got through the time with only 10 mg prednisone (which if you've ever been on it, you know that 10mg is VERY little!) and I could not tell if the pollen count outside was 30 or 1600. My breathing inside was no different. (And if I tried stepping outside, I felt like I was being hit with a sledgehammer, and my lungs would nearly instantly tighten up).

So for me, this filter is a keeper. I was MUCH healthier this year than I was the previous years without it, and I'm very grateful to the company for making something that has given me such asthma relief.

However, this filter is not without its issues that should be weighed in:

Minor issues with this air filter:

- This is a "slow-and-steady wins the race" filter. I would not expect you to feel serious relief from this filter for about 24 hrs after putting it in a room. Furthermore, if you have an exhaust fan running for any long period of time (ie, bathroom fan, kitchen hood fan, etc.) _this filter cannot keep up_.

-Doesn't seem to filter out wood smoke (or perhaps one of the chemical byproducts of it) 100%. I was at a location where the front of the home had a wood stove that was belching out some smoke. Even though I was in a room at the other end of the house with a closed door, this filter couldn't clear the smoke enough for me. I was forced to leave.

Cons:

-It is "plastic-y." While the "lego-brick" construction is definitely ingenious, I'm concerned about longevity of the side clips and handles. If I'm paying that much for an air filter, I would expect the handles and clips to be rock solid, not like this.

-VERY Pricey: Don't bother with this filter unless you really need it. If you are only an allergy sufferer, you might want to try the Honeywell filters first.

-Prefilter is pricey. I never heard about the prefilter in reviews of this device (I only heard about how you only have to change the HEPA filters every few years). The prefilter is supposed to be changed 4 times a year and they are $50 each. (!!) Worse yet, the "change indicator" is only a timer. So you have no real indication of the performance of any particular filter or whether or not you actually NEED to change it.

Conclusion:

If it didn't perform its job so well, it would be a 3-star machine because of the cons. If you aren't dealing with some serious breathing issues, I'd pass on this machine.

But if you are having serious breathing problems and would be willing to pay through the nose to get some relief, then I would HIGHLY recommend this machine.

IQAir HealthPro Plus Air Purifier is a solid product. At the lowest setting it is quiet enough for my son to sleep with it in his room and the difference it made was amazing. Gone are all of the allergy symptoms that we have dealt with for years during certain months. This product works very well, is economical, despite seemingly high initial cost, looks very elegant and I like that it is made in Switzerland. My family liked the first unit we bought so much that we ordered a second unit for the office as well.

One of the units came with a slight problem, after 5 minutes on the phone with IQAir, they FedEx'd me a brand new unit with prepaid shipping for the broken one. Great customer service!

I recommend IQAir HealthPro unit to anyone who wants to invest in a product that will work wonderfully for years, backed by a great company and will be the last air purifier that one will ever need to purchase.

This air purifer is really good. Once you turn it on in about 2 to 3 minutes, you experience the smooth clean air. And, with the ionizer, the air is cleaned good. I have a dog and a cat and also have allergies and this unit makes a big difference in the air in the house. Also, compare the price of this unit to other ionic air purifers, and the Surround Air XJ-2100 stands out from the other. This is an excellent product.

The only bad mark this product has is the two little plastic parts that is attached to the purifer part you take out to clean. Sometimes the two small plastic parts are not secure on the purifier part you pull out to clean. I had one a few years ago and now I have two in the home, and on one, the plastic parts are barely staying attached like my first one.

This item is compact, yet powerful enough and requires minimal cleaning. There are no filters to replace, so once you buy you only pay some pennies on electricity. It also produces small amounts of ozone, which is an excellent odor remover. Unfortunately, the ozone isn't optional, and too much of it isn't healthy.

It has a "high" and "low" state, and a fan which could be turned off.

What I like about it is that it can be placed anywhere in the house, since it's small. Compare that to the Ionic Breeze Quadra ionic towers, which need a lot of space.

As a bonus, you can connect it to the car - even leave it overnight (but you would have to open the windows in the morning to let the ozone out). In my opinion, it is too big for a car - but I have a small compact car, not a SUV. It can be used to remove odors from cars (or rooms), since the ozone does that.

What I wished were differently - as I've written - is the ozone output to be made optional.

Overall, this is a worthy investment, I heard about people ordering a buch of them - five or so (one for each room) - it is cheaper and healthier than an expensive big home unit.

The wife's asthma attacks are much improved and my eyes aren't swollen shut in the morning anymore from allergies/dust mites/mold or whatever the heck it was that was bothering me (I am highly allergic). I put one of these in my bedroom. Before installing it, I tossed and turned a lot at night and rarely dreamed. Now I sleep deeper and dream more often. I suspect my allergies were interfering with my sleep before. (I am primarily allergic to cats and dust mites, but also have a mild mold allergy.) The blue light on top does not interfere with my sleep, but sometimes I turn it off anyway. There is a small blue LED on the side that does not turn off, which I found annoying until I rotated the unit so that the LED does not shine in my eyes when I'm trying to sleep. The unit does not make any noise (the air is moved by heating, not by a fan).

Before buying this, I needed 7-8 hours of sleep per night to function well during the day. Now I feel the same on only 6-7 hours of sleep.

The product literature claims this can help remove odors from the air. It may reduce the pungency of odors, but it does not remove them completely in my experience.

Having recently been diagnosed with asthma I was anxious to find a good air purifier for my bedroom. I opted for the Airfree Onix 3000 because it was not only rated highly but, amazingly, required no maintenance. Within a matter of hours after plugging it in I noticed that the air smelled a lot fresher and the first morning after having the purifier in my room I woke up with almost no congestion in my nose (a first!)so it must be doing a good job of getting rid of the allergens. The best part is that because I am a light sleeper it's wonderful to have a purifier that is totally silent. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the anti-stress light but it's kind of a pretty so I may just leave it on. It's too early to comment on this product's longevity but I am extremely happy with it so far. So happy, in fact, that I am ordering 2 more for other parts of our house.

This product is useless.

It is a box with a blue light that turns on and off. It does not produce that "ion" smell that all other ionizers produce, it did not make my car smell any different even after running it for a week (my car does not need to be turned on for 12v to work), and it makes no sound or any other indication that it is doing anything besides shinning a blue light.

I stuck two of these things into both 12v ports in my car, left it for a week and nothing. I stuck my nose to it while on and it smelled no different than when it was off.

Do not buy this product.

"Actually produces ions" 2009-01-18

This product actually produces negative ions. It is rated much lower than the RoadPro car ionizer, yet the RoadPro did not set my ion detector off even when it was almost touching it.

I think the difference is ozone output. Ozone is good for removing odors. It can be harmful if you get too much. The RoadPro seems to produce more ozone but no significant ions. At least the Ionic Pro actually produces ions. However, if you were considering the Ionic Pro for negative ion therapy, forget it. I would estimate the output of ions at 2 feet to be about 1,500 per cm3. For reference, standing near Niagra Falls is 100,000 per cm3. Most studies on negative ion therapy show it takes a lot of ions to have an effect.

"Actually BAD For You!" 2008-05-23

I bought this on sale thinking it would keep my truck smelling clean and dust free. It does nothing about dust as it does not move air. I discovered through a little GOOGLE research how ionizers work. As pollutants such as pollen, cigarette smoke and even vaporized substances like car fumes are attracted to the ions they cluster around them. This has the effect of making the ion grow in size. There comes a point where it is too heavy to be carried in the air, so it falls to the ground. However (talk to your doctor about this) a badly designed ionizer may produce ozone, and with it nitrous oxide. These are toxic substances and can cause respiratory difficulties and stinging eyes. So you are actually not doing anything better than making your car smell a little cleaner at the expense of your health.

I paid $15 at Wal*Mart for one of these thinking that it would keep my car smelling nice. What I bought it an ugly housing for a blue LED light. As far as I can tell, the only thing it does is turn the bulb on or off.

There's no noticeable difference between using it and not using it. To me that indicates failure. It does absolutely nothing of notice. No new smell, no less old smell. Nothing.

It's a real shame that companies can sell products like this.

I agree with the first 3 who posted. I bought the Ionic Pro's and replacement blades and LOVE them. This thing for the car confuses me. I don't notice any difference when using it. I don't worry about turning it off since the lighter-plug doesn't work unless the car is on. I've had much better results with a few shots of NuCar or just about any Odor Gone sprays than this product. I'm disappointed and hate that I wasted my money on this.

Now that I have had them for a year, the output has dwindled to almost nothing, even if I clean them. I can't find an ionizer that works for longer than about a year. I think the problem is the corona wires need to be cleaned as well, but they cannot be reached or removed.

They did work good for about 6 months. (I bought 6 of them and they are all the same.)

Unit is large, blocks both outlets. Amber LED nightlight is not very bright compared to white LED nightlights.

I have used 2 of these for a couple of years now; one in the bathroom and one next to the litter box. I have 2 cats, and before I had one of these next to the litter box I had a terrible time getting rid of the smell. Since i've used one of these next to it I have had no smell at all, even next to the litter box. It has also helped with the litter dust when refilling the litter box. I have a small 2 bedroom condo, and before that an even smaller 1 bedroom apartment, and this was a must in keeping both places from smelling like cat box. I liked it so well I got one for my bathroom as well. I always use a night light in the bathroom anyway for late night trips in there, and the purifier keeps it fresh in there. I noticed a couple of reviews complaining about the light and the fact that you can't turn it off. Well, what do you expect when the name of the product says "with light" in it! LOL

For the size and price don't expect it to clean a large room or completely get rid of allergens or dust. That's unrealistic. If used in the bathroom it will not immediately get rid of "smells", but it will definately speed up the process. I'm considering getting one in my kitchen as well to help with odors in there as I cook with a lot of garlic and other smelly things. In my opinion, this is a definate necessity with anyone with a litterbox.

The first thing that I should point out is that this item is NOT an ionizer, it is an ozone generator! Completely different. Please do your research, ozone can be hazardous to your health in large quantities. This one does have a low output though.

That being said, I have 3 of these going in my basement & they have done a pretty good job of getting rid of that mold/mildew smell.

I've had other types of air cleaners - Ionic Breeze, etc. - but Rabbitair is the best. It tells you how clean your air is and is quiet and relatively maintenance free (just vacuum the hepa filter and rinse the charcoal one every couple of months or so & replace about every 18 months). The filters are a bit expensive, but they only need to be replaced about every 18 months. Best of all, the Rabbitair gets the air in my apartment noticably cleaner faster than any of the other units I've tried.

This item was a direct OEM replacement to the filter that came with my unit. There was NO discrepancies between this one and the original.

Aside from the obvious shipping materials (which were ample): The packaging for this product is minimal: only a purple bag around it. No pointless extra box or other materials you just end up throwing away. The purple bag is "PE rated for recycling.

My last filter lasted 3 years, which is 18 months longer than suggested. How I knew it was time to change out the filter was that the unit began to suck air around the filter instead of through it. I would recommend NOT going quite this long, maybe 24 months.

I did, however, vacuum the filter every month or so with a good HEPA rated vacuum. This will prolong the life of your filter to 24 months, depending on your environment.

I have asthma and allergies and an air cleaner for me is a must. Even though my apartment building is a non-smoking building, some of the tenants smoke and don't always obey the rules. But almost everything else that has an odor or a presence in the air can choke me. This cleaner works well for the price of the unit. The filters need to be changed at least every six months, but they are pretty pricey - if they were not so expensive I'd change them every three months.

Some points:

I have this and the the austin air hm-400. I actually like the hm-400 better because: 1) its louder, but it has a white noise sound (like an HCAV unit makes). The rabbit has a motor sound. 2) I dont believe this actually filters much on low or quiet.

The major selling point for me on this was the claimed noise level. I wish I had a DB sensor, because i can still clearly hear it at night if its in our room (on quiet!). I can hear the motor spinning. Maybe its a problem with the unit, who knows, but i thought it was suppose to be inaudible on quiet.

I have a strong feeling that the cubic feet estimate is not realalistic unless its on high or turbo which is too loud for me. I didnt notice any difference in air quality with this.

The mood light is stupid, but at least you can turn it off.

The charcoal filter is also a bit silly. They say its washable, ha! Show me how washing it takes out the smell. Be prepared to buy a new one a few times a year (30 a pop)

I have bought almost a dozen air purifiers over the last decade to help with cat allergies that I have. They have ranged from those made from the Hunter, Honeywell, Bionaire, etc. These were all intermediate units, ranging in price from $150 - $250 with HEPA filter technology. I don't have any cats, but if someone comes into the house that has a cat, the dander irritation to my eyes is detectable in minutes and can last for days after that individual has left. All of the air purifiers that I have used have "worked" to some degree, but they have two major drawbacks -- noise and energy consumption. I was drawn to the Rabbit Air MinusA2 by the use of its Brushless Direct Current Motor, which does have the potential to be more frugal with power than a traditional AC motor. In addition, the marketing for the Rabbit Air promotes leaving the Air Purifiers on 24 hours, something I am reluctant to do with past systems because of the noise and electricity bills.

I bought the Rabbit Air MinusA2 hoping the extra cost could give me a final solution to the endless purchase of lesser systems. The Air Minus system is made of quality material and the design in which it draws air from the periphery of the front cover is quite attractive. (Not a typical radiator design) I chose the pet allergy custom filter for my specific needs and installation of the filter set and start of operation was a snap in about 15 minutes. The system was indeed quiet with the only the highest two settings making significant background noise. In normal operation I set the system to the middle (3) setting. The noise at this setting is barely noticeable. Since I did not want to wait months to see my utility bill or stand outside and watch my meter, I bought a power meter (P3 International P4460 Kill A Watt EZ Electricity Usage Monitor) thru Amazon and made a check. At the lowest setting, the Rabbit Air MinusA2 used 7 Watts and at the middle setting used only 14 Watts; the highest turbo setting came in at 46 Watts. This electrical usage is as advertised and makes the Rabbit Air MinusA2 a system I can leave on 24 hrs and still use less electricity than my older systems. I have since bought a second system for the upstairs of the house. I have them set at the middle setting during the day and run them in sleep mode during the night. I clean the pre-filter about once a month with a hand vacuum. The mood light is bright and I usually leave it off. There is an air quality sensor that changes the speed of the purifier based on the particles it detects. At first, I thought this was a gimmick, but if you are dusting or vacuuming, and stirring up dust, the sensor detects that added particles and steps up the system to a higher mode to clear the air. This air sensor system is quite sensitive and is a very good gauge on the air quality in the house.

In summary, the low power consumption more than makes up for the higher initial cost. I save on average $20 - $25/month/system in electricity costs over the older systems, etc. The low noise operation allows me to keep the system on at night with no disturbance and provides better air as I sleep. As far as the systems ability to clear the air, if I have a significant intrusion of cat dander brought in by friends or family, it usually takes 24 - 48 hours to clear the air back to normal - which is what I would expect for a typical 3-4 bedroom house. The dust accumulation in the house has been reduced and the overall air quality in the house seems better. I have had the systems just over a year at this point and am planning to get new filter sets. There has been no noticeable reduction in system performance at 1 year and I hope that continues.

My review is more of a personal story than a technical review as you can find all of the tech info about this product elsewhere. I am sure there our other folks out there who will be able to relate to what I relay below and I have not seen other reviews (of almost any air purifying product) like it, so I though that I would chime in...

My fiance has asthma and suffers from severe allergies - both seasonal and pet related. We have 3 dogs and she has suffered for years with asthma flair-ups because of them - to the point where she was constantly miserable, could not breath, and would need to take 2-3 doses of albuterol per day just to cope. Bedtime was especially difficult and it was extremely rare for her to not need the medication then.

We tried everything...doctor visits, allergy medications of all sorts, moving our bedroom to every room in the house...putting filters on our fans and A/C...leaving the windows closed or open...using a variety of (less expensive) air purifiers - both HEPA and Ionic. Nothing worked and she was in constant misery.

Enter the Minus A2. I was out of ideas and doing my Amazon homework about air purifiers, once again, when I came across this unit. It was expensive but I decided to spend the money and try it out. I could always return it.

It arrived quickly and well-packaged. In fact, everything about this product says "quality". I set it up and ran it (I opted for the Pet Allergy extra filter) for a few hours that night while she was at work. As soon as she entered the living room she noticed the improvement in the air quality. We moved it upstairs and, lo and behold, she did not need to use her medication for the fist night in months! For 2 weeks now we have moved it between downstairs during the day and upstairs at night and she has only had to use the pump 1 time - and that was after she cleaned the house for 4 hours one day. This product has been truly amazing. I really thought she would never find comfort in our house again but things are so much better now and it has made everything about our time in the house better.

We have yet to try it out in full allergy season but I will be buying another one before then so the whole house can be covered all the time. This was literally a saving grace type of product for us and I could not recommend it highly enough. I cannot guarantee it will work as well for others as it did for us, but we are highly satisfied.

Just as an aside...we tend to run the product on medium or higher speed. It makes a bit of noise but we like the white noise at night for sleeping so we leave it set there. I cannot vouch for how well it filters on the lower speed but the Low/silent speeds are very quiet indeed - if that is what you need. The lights on it are bright but we turn off the mood light and face the unit towards a wall to deflect the power light. I am a light sleeper but the added light does not bother me.

I hope this helps and we highly recommend this unit.

When I first bought this air purifier I could feel the difference. The air seemed fresh and clean. Now that I've had it a few months, it stills makes a difference, but it doesn't seem to be quite as extreme. I did just clean the filter for the first time about 2.5 months after getting and it and boy, was there a lot of fine fine dust, pet hair and other junk. After reading the directions I noticed I was supposed to clean the 1st filter every month. I tend to put the fan on rather than use the auto function because it seems to clean better. I'm pleased with my purchase though, and overall I feel healthier because of it.

This really works. The auto mode is fantastic. Comes on as needed. To put it delicately....when I or my dogs pass gas within seconds the auto mode kicks in a goes to a higher speed. If I come up from my basement, it detects whatever I brought up with me and revs up. It is normally quiet and usually runs at low speed but I am amazed at the sensitivity to what is in the air and with three dogs it does the job. Filters are no problem to clean. I intend to buy another for my bed room since it sits over a crawl space.

I have only had the Rabbit Air BioGS 582A for a couple weeks. Very easy to set up, and get operating. I wish the instructions went into more detail about what the different functions are used for [for people like me who do not know the technical lingo]. It seems to be working very well. I have a lot of alergies. Some have said they don't know where to put the remote. There is a molded indention area for the remote on the top of the unit, to the right of the air vent, for this purpose. I am thinking about getting a 2nd one, when I can, for my outer rooms.

Prior to purchasing the Rabbit Air BioGS (model 582A - covers 780 sq. ft.) Ultra-Quiet Air Purifier w/ Germicidal Sterilization - Low Maintenance - Washable Filters!, Metallic Blue, we had stuffy noses and headaches in the morning. This may have been related to installation of an attic and insulation as well as repair of water damage where black mold was growing. We removed the black mold using a bleach water mixture. We then tried an ozonator (Living Air) and electrostatic filters (Sharper Image) over a period of weeks but they did not help. However, the very same night that we put the Rabbit Air BioGS Model 582A in the bedroom, we saw an improvement in our symptoms.

I'm very happy with the product and this review doesn't stop here. I've comfortable that Rabbit Air will continue to support the product based on the experience we had with the first unit which arrived in a box that had been handled roughly. Upon inspecting the package, we found the product damaged and immediately called Rabbit Air. Their customer service answered on the second ring and without transferring me, they were able to ask a few questions and in less than 5 minutes, I was off the phone. A new unit showed up the very next day and the shipper picked up the damaged unit on the same visit! Now that's the definition of excellent customer service!

The product carries a five year warranty and when taking into account that Rabbit Air actually answers the phone with a live person, it really leaves me a confidence that they will be there if we do run into warranty related issues or questions.

Rabbit Air also offers a filter replacement reminder service. This is also a great feature since some of the filters require replacement in 18 months to 3 years. In this period of time, I know that a reminder will be nice although, there is a filter replacement indicator built into the unit.

We would strongly recommend the Rabbit Air BioGS Model 582A to anybody that has a need to reduce odors and dust/pollen/smoke from a room. We are completely satisfied with the company and the product at this point. Bottom line: The product works exactly as the product description implies and it is very well supported.

We've had the Rabbit Air BioGS Model 582A for two months and it performs very well. The unit is in the bedroom and we leave it in automatic mode all the time. The speed automatically changes depending on the amount of dust, pollen or odors in the air. This should lead to the lowest energy cost possible while still keeping the air clean.

While the price tag was a bit high, I think the unit will perform well over the next five or more years and should have the lowest cost of ownership. The pre-filter and the carbon filter can be cleaned (every one to two months for the pre-filter and every 18 to 36 months for the carbon filter). The carbon filter can be cleaned only once and then is supposed to be replaced after it becomes dirty again. The HEPA filter requires changing only once every 36 months. Timers for filter replacement and cleaning are built into the unit and automatic. We expect that it will be cheaper to operate than most others on the market with similar capabilities. Frankly, I'm expecting to get more life from all filters than the manual states because the air in our bedroom is not very dirty so the unit runs at extremely low speed (almost can't hear it!) most of the time.

I'm still baffled that Consumer Reports has not rated this excellent, efficient and very well supported product. I know it is supported well because the first unit was damaged in shipment (dropped hard by UPS). I called Rabbit Air and on the second ring, a live person picked up the phone and within less than 5 minutes arranged to have a new unit shipped. The new unit arrived the very next day and UPS simply picked up the damaged unit at the same time.

This is my 2nd Rabbit Air MinusA2. My first Rabbit air runs at fan speed lvl 3 non stop for one year already and it's still running well just like new(of course I do change filter after 1 yr). Why I don't pick up other brand? Because it is Small, Powerful, Quiet, Beautiful, Reliable, Efficient and it does make the air in my room so clean, lots of my friends come to my place they can tell the difference; and already 3 of them pick up Rabbit Air MinusA2 after they saw it. A lot good purifier out there and I believe most of the high end purifier they all perform well, but they are all in HUGE size.

Let me first say, I can't stand noise! This Air Filter works wonderfully, worth every penny and more, because not only does it work great, but unless it's on high you don't even know it's there. Let me also clarify, when it's on high, it's not loud enough to distract or even bother you while on a phone call. I love it, highly recommend it, and I bought two, and both are flawless.

Little warning to those that want to order more than one! Place individual orders, I had a small problem with the company only shipping me one, though my order was for two. They not only corrected my order, but gave me an extra filter free of charge. The company cares about its customers, however, I would still have preferred to receive my complete order on time.

Lastly, they look so cool! Really eye catching, and this combined with its quiet and extensive air filtration, leaves me a little lighter in the wallet, but hopefully my partner, two kitties, and I are healthier and happy for a long, long time.

I have no regrets.

Hi Everyone! I've purchased three of these Black MinusA2 780A's and am very happy with their performance. Based on the research that I have done, this product offers the best blend of form and function available, with it's highly effective air purification and it's unparalleled aesthetics as well as it's extremely quiet operation. As far as I can see it is the best overall product on the market today.

I also like the high level of automation and the light sensor that automatically puts the air purifier into silent mode and turns the purifiers' lights off 3 minutes after I turn my lights off to go to bed.

Another noteworthy aspect of the 780A is it's low level of energy use, between 8 and 58 watts depending on fan speed. The product essentially pays for itself in energy savings vs it's competitors over time, and the Rabbit Air products are also the quietest purifiers on the market due to their brushless motors, with their largest and loudest being this 780A model which produces only 25.6 dBA - 51.3 dBA from silent to turbo fan speed.

Other good products worth looking into are the Alen A350 and T300, the Blueair 402, 501, and 601, the Austin Health Mate air purifiers, as well as IQ Air and so on. But I think you will find that, although a bit pricey, this product is indeed the total package. Also, if you live in an apartment without pets and don't have major allergies, I would recommend selecting the Toxin Air Filter, it's great for filtering out the chemicals in the air from fresh paint and new furniture. First of all, I never really noticed a difference in air quality. The light on my unit died about a year after purchased and since there are no movable parts, the only way one could tell it was on was to touch to see if warm. I should have returned the unit at that time since it was still within the 2 year warranty, but it still worked so I didn't feel like dealing with the hassle of returning it. Finally, the unit died. I didn't notice at first because there was no light, but I touched it one day and it was ice cold. I tried moving it to a different outlet, but nothing. Since this is an unusual design, I couldn't open it up to try to figure out what was wrong, nor could I bring it to a repair person. I contacted the company and was told I could return the unit to be repaired for $80 (plus shipping), which in my opinion is just not worth it for something that I didn't think worked very well in the first place. If only it had died 2 MONTHS earlier, it would have been under warranty!! Just be warned-- if you already have a unit that is still under warranty, I would return at ANY sign of malfunction!

I make about 10 to 20 purchases on Amazon every month - both for personal and business uses - but I almost never review the products I buy. However, I thought I should write one for the Airfree P1000 because it really is a great product that deserves a little of my time and effort.

We own an Airfree P1000 and a RabbitAir BioGS. We put the Airfree P1000 in our bedroom because it's silent and serves as a nightlight for me; I am night blind. The light is adjustable so I can keep it dim and not disturb my husband. We don't always get to open our bedroom window because it is right by our neighbor's patio where she keeps one of her dogs and she is not always home to clean up after the dog right after it goes.

Also, we have two cats and a dog so it's impossible to have the bedroom smelling fresh. However, the P1000 was able to completely freshen-up the bedroom in just a couple of hours. It even removed the scent coming from the plug-in air freshener. And being inexpensive and virtually maintenance free are definitely additional pluses. I am extremely pleased with the Airfree P1000.

I have two different models of this air filter. We bought one and used it. Then, we bought another unit. They run 24x7 in my house because some family members have allergies and we have multiple pets. I've had no problems at all. The noise level is quite tolerable to us, even with one sitting right behind the sofa. One thing I have to remember to do is turn them on again after a power failure. However, that's a safety feature and I don't want most electrical appliances coming on automatically after a power outage. The big advantage to this brand is that the air filters last longer and are easy to change. In addition, the controls allow the user to select the combination of features he wants to use.

My girlfriend has stabilized congenital emphysema and allergies that make it difficult for her to breath during certain times of the year. Personally, I have very bad allergies that make you wake up every morning with sinus headaches and stuffy noses. After purchasing this product 2 years ago, I do not regret dropping $400 on the system. Also, I use a cold Holmes humidifier. Together, these systems allow us to breath. I can actually smell food in the morning. My eyes are not dry anymore and I have not had a bout of wheezing in 1 1/2 years. For those who have left poor reviews, your systems broke and it does suck...BUT, mine works great and has not broken. So, if you are looking to purchase a system, buy the warranty. My girlfriend also has been doing incredibly well over the past two years as well. She has only had two cases of wheezing and that was because she came down with a cold.

Another tip if you are interested in purchasing the air system: Get a humidifier because the system sort of brings down the humidity in the room (Do no sit the two near each other because water and electricity are not a good combination). Also, do not directly sleep with the system pointed towards you because you will dry out your sinuses. Try to clean the system once a week and buy a mask to protect yourself from the dust. Clean the system far away from open doors or windows of your dwelling. The last thing you want is the gunk back in your home.

After a relative gave her this product she noticed a huge reduction in sinus problems related to allergens. I came to Amazon to buy some for her best friend, who has a motorhome for cross country traveling. Her friend takes her 3 golden retrievers with her and loves the clean air inside her motorhome after borrowing my wife's unit. My wife's friend lives in a fantastic home in Key West. She can afford any air cleaner made on earth. She specifically wants these cleaners for her house and motorhome. They work well, they are easy to clean and they are quiet. What's not to like?

The Sharper Image has filed for bankruptcy protection after years of slipping sales, stiffening competition and image problems over its Ionic Breeze air purifiers. In 2005, a Consumer Reports study suggested that the Ionic Breeze product might be dangerous to users because the purifiers generated small amounts of ozone.

A California case has been certified as a class action, which could translate into significant legal costs for the company. A proposed settlement of an Ionic Breeze lawsuit in Florida was rejected by a judge in October, sending Shaper Image's stock plunging.

With little money to run its business, according to its bankruptcy filing, Sharper Image was broke.

The 2007 holiday season provided little relief.

The retailer's management now says that 90 stores, about half of all Sharper Image's outlets, are performing poorly and should be closed "as soon as possible."

This product is pretty good. I've had mine for 3 years and it work just as good as when I first got it. This filter isn't the end all to air purifying but it's cheap to run all the time and it's quiet when you keep it clean. When it's not clean it makes angry noises (buzzing). I don't know how people can say that it doesn't do anything though. Every week I need to clean mine because it gets caked with dust. Thats part of the problem with the stupid thing. I've grown to hate cleaning this thing. It's really annoying to have to clean this thing every week, let it dry and then continue use. The most annoying part of cleaning it is wiping down each blade. Those commercials you see on TV where they just run some water over it and call it quits are a joke. I'm just glad I don't have the next gen unit with a million closely spaced blades. I'd probably turn on Linkin Park cut my wrists after having to deal with cleaning that monstrosity after having to clean it out a couple times. I really want to find a good hepa filter, where I can just toss the used filter and get a nice new fresh one. All and all the Ionic Breeze does a darn fine average job, and I would probably recommend it if you don't mind cleaning in all the time.
